Abstract
Purpose: The goals of this study are to examine the levels of sense of loss, gender role identity, spousal support and quality of life among women who had laparoscopic surgery and to understand the factors that influence quality of life.

The subjects were diagnosed with benign gynecologic disorder, and had laparoscopic assisted vaginal hysterectomy surgery. The data was collected from February 4 to May 14, 2013 at a university hospital with more than 2,000 beds in Seoul. The data collected was analyzed with t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe¡¯s test, Pearson¡¯s correlation coefficient, and Stepwise Linear Regression using SPSS 21.0 program.

Results: The factors that influence quality of life were hormone therapy (¥â = -.20, t=-3.44, p=.001), sense of loss (¥â = -.65, t=-11.09, p<.001), and spousal support (¥â = .27, t=4.76, p<.001). The analysis yielded explanatory power of 59.5%.

Conclusion: In order to improve the quality of life in women who had laparoscopic assisted vaginal hysterectomy surgery, development of intervention program is needed for the individuals who had undergone hormone therapy and had a high sense of loss. Additionally, participation of the subject¡¯s husband in the program is necessary.
